Beijing Film Panorama

The 2017 Beijing International Festival is an annual feast for movie lovers in the Chinese capital. This year"s festival is scheduled to run from April 16-23.

The Beijing Film Panorama will be showcased as part of the annual occasion, running from April 8-23. Nearly 500 movies from both China and abroad will be screened in 30 cinemas and movie organizations across the city in the next two weeks. Movies such as Titanic, Manhattan and Street Angel will be featured, as well as the new Oscar winning film Moonlight.

Jane Eyre ( Mandarin )

A dramatic Chinese version of Charlotte Bronte"s hit novel Jane Eyre will be shown at the National Center for the Performing Arts ( NCPA ) next week. Actress Yuan Quan and actor Wang Luoyong will play the leading roles of Jane Eyre and Rochester.

Opera Lucia di Lammermoor

Lucia di Lammermoor, a co-production by Russia"s Mariinsky Theater and the National Center for the Performing Arts, will be staged in Beijing for four days from April 9, as the opener for the NCPA Opera Festival.

Conducted by Valery Gergiev, and directed and designed by Yannis Kokkos, the opera will be performed by both Chinese and Western singers.

Group show highlights power of young artists

Parkview Green Art 798 gallery"s third edition of the Xun-Xun Group Show series continues to show the vigor and depth of young artists.

The paintings and installations are derived from personal experiences, struggling to gain employment in major cities. On a deeper level, the images touch on the sensitiveness of urbanities, the clashes between home and Western cultures, and how humanity has been distorted by social values.

Autistic children"s artistic paintings

To mark World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, exhibition Autistic or Artistic is being held across 100 cities in China, featuring 5,000 paintings from children identified as hing autism.

The works are opening for visiting at many art galleries in Beijing, including the Li Keran Academy of Painting and the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art.

"Life and Nature" under brushes of Chinese and Irish painters

The Infinite Entities: Life and Nature exhibition is a collaborative exhibition between Chinese artist Geng Xin and Irish artist Niamh Cunningham, focusing on the reflections of life and nature.

Geng follows Western-style painting traditions in his oil paintings, portraying landscapes in Russia, while Cunningham shows her skills in Chinese watercolors and traditional Chinese rice paper. She creates artworks ranging from flowers to cellular landscapes using her medical background.

China"s 19th-century birds on show

An ongoing exhibition showcasing illustrations of birds by French missionaries in China during the 19th century is currently underway in Beijing. It features 746 illustrations describing 416 species of birds, some of which are extinct.

The exhibition is part of the celebrations marking the 36th Beijing Bird Loving Week - an annual event designed at enhancing public awareness of biodiversity.
